Jeremy Melton - Co-Owner of Kansas Ji Do KwanSensei Jeremy Melton began his training at 7 years old in the garage dojo of Master Curtis Herrington in the art of Ohio Ji Do Kwan Kong Su Do. Sensei Melton earned his yellow belt after one year of training and later moved away and was unable to continue training.

Sensei Melton later trained under Derwood Daniels aka Mr. Dee, in the art of Ohio Mu Dukwan. He was fourteen years old and eager to continue training. He trained with Mr. Dee for a year and earned an orange belt in Shoulin Su Kempo.

Shortly after that, Jim Endrizzi and Master Curtis Herrington opened a small dojo in North Ridgeville Ohio which allowed hime to continue his training in the Ohio Ji Do Kwan system. Sensei Melton earned his blue belt and was nearing his green belt test when he discovered Sensei Herrington had health problems which inhibited him from running the dojo and consequently it closed.

A few years later Sensei Melton was living in North Olmsted Ohio and started training under Master Michael Minona in the art of Hapkido. He enjoyed this style because it was similar to the Ji Do Kwan system. He was able to catch on quickly and in two years he earned a green belt.

Sensei Melton then heard that Sensei Endrizzi was opening a new dojo. Once again an opportunity to continue his Ji Do Kwan training. Sensei Melton trained as much as possible, even staying after class privately with Sensei Endrizzi questioning new techniques. Sensei Endrizzi challenged Melton in many ways teaching karate, judo and jiu jitsu. At the time Sensei Endrizzi held a fifth degree in karate, fourth degree in judo and third degree in jiu jitsu. Sensei Melton earned his black belt in February 2000 testing with Jim Endrizzi, Ed Rico and Bobby Madison.

After earning his black belt his attention was shifted to perfecting his kata with which he had lots of help from Grand Master Al Fuzy.

Sensei Melton diligently started learning to ground fight and was looking to close any holes in his game. He picked up Sambo in 2000 with Darrin Pordash and shortly later earned his black belt in Judo in October 2001 with Sensei Endrizzi, Louie Silva, Mary Rabarsic, O Sensei Phillip Porter. Sensei Melton also started training with Paul Jordan for six months before relocating to Kansas.

Once we were settled in Kansas he got to work finishing his basement for his first dojo. Sensei also trained with Travis Boggs at the Kodokan and the Krav Maga under Suyoung in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He continued his BJJ training for over two years with various black belt instructors, recently with Renato Tavares from American Top Team. Once the basement was complete Kansas Ji Do Kwan was born! The first class consisted of their children, Ashley and Alex, their friends and one adult Brent Ellison. They trained in the basement for two years picking up about one new student per month. They have taken their karate kids to tournaments and they with held the standard that was set before them with the Ohio Jo Do Kwan system: “Winner of the arena”

In April of 2006 they opened the first store front Kansas Ji Do Kwan school and the legacy is born!
